Family Opportunities:

Family and Friends Practice Evening: The Washington Mindfulness Community offers quarterly evenings incorporating activities to help children learn the basics of the mindfulness practice. Activities are intended to appeal to everyone, not just adults and not just children, with the hope of building sangha across all ages, from birth to 199 years. Second Sunday of March, June, September, and December, 7 p.m., following regular silent sitting and walking meditation, at the Washington Buddhist Vihara.

Capitol Hill Family Mindfulness Group: based on Thich Nhat Hanh's teachings, including the book Planting Seeds: Practicing Mindfulness with Children. Some activities are children-led and include helping families return to the present moment, celebrate children's perceptions and play. First Sunday of each month, 10 a.m.-noon, 323 11th Street NE. Children ages 5 to 12 years welcome.
